Oh god, another newsletter.

Let’s get one thing straight: if you’re reading this, you’re already a bit of a coffee freak. Not the type to simply get wide-eyed at a “single-origin.” No, if you’re here, you’re the sort who’s made a loved one tune out while you rambled on about double anaerobic processing versus carbonic maceration. And that’s where we come in—because we’re every bit as obsessed as you are.

Coffee’s more than a tool to help jump-start the day. This stuff is complex, strange, and frankly mysterious—a ritual that can veer from art to chaos depending on the day, the beans, and the minerals in your water. A ritual that deserves its own space, and that’s exactly what we’re trying to create. But I’m preaching to the choir.

So why The Filter? What makes us worth your precious inbox space? Here’s the short answer: trust us. (I know, I wouldn’t trust anyone who says “trust me” either—but here we are.) We’re setting out to build the kind of newsletter we’d want to read. Not just a slow drip of caffeine puns and cold foam recipes, but links to (and reviews of) the latest coffee releases from roasters you should know, café spotlights, weekly recipes, articles, and interviews with folks who live and breathe this weird little drink we love.

Here’s what to expect:

  • Monday: Recipe of the Week – Time to play with variables. Ratios, devices, temps—the whole mad science approach. Maybe it’s a classic Chemex; maybe it’s something insane. We’ll find out together.

  • Friday: Coffee Review – We dig into a bag, give it a hard look, and tell you what sings and what falls flat. More on this coming in the next newsletter.

  • Last Wednesday of the Month: Café Review – The hunt for the perfect café is real. Skip the Yelp guesswork. We’re curating a list so you don’t have to.

That’s the grand plan, for now. We’re big fans of leaving a little room for chaos. So sign up, stay tuned, and let’s see where the cup takes us.

Happy brewing,

The Filter

Oh, you thought we were done? Not a chance. Welcome to The Draw Down—our last little nod to the best of the coffee world this week. No fluff, just the real deal:

  • Lance Hedrick gave a giant, stunning slab of concrete the spotlight it deserves.

  • Airworks Coffee dropped the Wes Ngopi lineup today, with a Bolivian Geisha, a natural Ethiopian, and a non-gesha from Panama.

  • Porsche and La Marzocco joined forces to bring us the sleekest espresso machine of the year. Yes, it’s ridiculous, and yes, we still want it.

  • Prodigal—a roasters we can’t shut up about—just launched a Geisha from Wilder Lazo. And seriously, can we all settle on which way to spell Geisha/Gesha?

  • The homies at Genre released a jammy Ethiopian that’s blackberry heaven in a cup. You’re welcome.
